Florida Gators Earn Second Place Finish

A student of finance at the University of Florida, Emma Whitner is a member of the University's women’s swimming and diving team, the Florida Gators. During her collegiate diving career, Emma Whitner has placed in several Southeastern Conference Championships, winning the silver medal in the Women's Platform Diving at the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Florida Gators swimming and diving team was ranked No. 7 in its division in 2020. At the 2020 SEC Championships held in February at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center, the Gators finished second place, falling just 28.5 points behind the first-place finisher, the University of Tennessee. Earlier in the competition, the Gators had bested the University of Tennessee by 68 points during one night’s meet.

Ms. Whitner was one of two platform finalists in one session of the competition, earning a second-place finish with a total score of 285.45, surpassing her previous best. In total, the Gators earned seven medals (six individual and one relay) in the 2020 competition. The Florida Gators women’s swimming and diving team also finished second in the 2019 SEC Championships. This is the first time the team has had consecutive top-place finishes since 2011-2012.
